One Song Abs Workout | DIY Healthy 2016

Hello! This is a nice, quick and simple post, in which you can fulfil your workout for your abs! It only takes 3 minutes and you can alter the different parts to whatever you please, or the same!

15 X LEG TWISTS (ALTERNATE BETWEEN EACH LEG)

40 X HILLCLIMBERS

20 X HEEL TOUCHES

10 X LAYING JACKNIFES

40 X BICYCLE CRUNCH

10 X LAYING JACKNIFES

12 X ELBOW CRUNCH (6 FOR EACH LEG)

20 X CRUNCHES

(I usually repeat this 2-3 times everyday, but this is perfectly optional, you could opt to doing it once or twice a week and doping two reps etc.)

The songs I recommended to do it to are...
  • "Lay It All On Me" (Rudimental feat. Ed Sheeran)
  • "How To Be A Heartbreaker (Marina and the Diamonds)
  • "Famous" (Charli XCX)

If you are confused as to how to do any of these, don't hesitate to ask me, since I was pretty clueless on how to do half of them first of! I hope you enjoy having a go at this workout!

Overnight Breakfast Oats | DIY Healthy 2016

Hello! Here I am, back with my bold statements again, but I'm not kidding, I have been eating this breakfast non-stop for a month now (I may have exaggerated...slightly!) but trust me its worth it! I've been going much healthier recently and therefore discovered lots of lovely new recipes, so I'm so excited to share this with you, and I really hope you try it out!

Ingredients:
  • 80 g Porridge Oats
  • 120 ml Plant based milk ( I have never tried normal milk with it, but feel free to do so!)
  • 1 teaspoon of Cacao powder (optional)
  • Some mixed seeds, flaxseed or linseed and dried raisins, sultanas and cranberries (optional- I used raisins in the image below and topped with grapes)
  • 1 tablespoon of Honey
Method:
  1. Firstly you want to put the oats in a container where there is a lid to it (preferably). Then add the milk in and mix until all the oats are covered.
  2. Then add the honey and (the rest of this is completely optional) cacao powder, seeds, flaxseed or linseed and dried fruits + mix it all in.
  3. Lastly, refrigerate it overnight with the lid on and take out in the morning and enjoy!
And it is that easy! To make a healthy, long-burning breakfast that will definitely last you till lunch! All it takes is a little preparation the night before and voila! I'll be back with more of these posts soon, so look out!

Superfood Break Bars | DIY Healthy 2016

Hello all, today I'm here with something which a guarantee will make you feel better after the hangovers and 3-course meals that come with New Year and Christmas! This month, I want to concentrate on healthy alternatives and not only getting myself back on track, but you as a reader, so I hope you like my first recipe that I'm going to share with you!

What you will need:
  • 20 (preferably) Medjool Dates (you can use normal dates as well, but make sure that they are already quite soft and use extra (about 6 more) since Medjool dates are larger than the normal date)
  • 1 cup of sunflower seeds (175g)
  • 1 cup of pumpkin seeds (175g)
  • 1 cup flaxseeds or golden linseed (200g)
  • 1 cup of raisins (200g)
  • 2 cups of oats (240g)
  • 2 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 3 tbsp. ground cinnamon
(You can use a seed mix, and dependant on which one you get, it will most likely contain the seeds needed and flaxseed)
Method:
  1. Firstly, preheat the oven to gas mark 4 (or 180 degrees/fan 160 degrees)
  2. If their not already, pit the dates then place them in a saucepan with two cups of water that has already boiled. Leave it to simmer for 5 minutes, or until they become soft. It is perfectly okay if they begin to flake or break up!
  3. While the dates cook, place all the seeds, raisins and oats into a very large mixing bowl, and just stir them together.
  4. When the dates are cooked for the 5 minutes place them in a separate bowl to the seeds, with the chia seeds and cinnamon. If you have large blender use that to mix them, but I used a hand blender and it worked well. Do this until its a smooth mixture.
  5. Then pour the puree over the seeds and oats and mix thoroughly to make sure it is all coated in the mixture (add some extra water if it doesn't look like it will)
  6. Next, either grease a large baking tray with coconut oil or use greasing sheets, which basically don't need greasing: genius! Pour the granola mix into this tray and press it down firmly so its tightly packed in,
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, then remove it and cut it into bars and place it back in for 10-20 minutes. Take out. Enjoy!
And that's it! This recipe makes many bars, which can be used as a quick breakfast, lunch (brunch?), snack or supper! I hope you like making these, because I did!

Winter Playlist | 2015

Hello all and welcome back to another post of mine! It's been ages since I've had a proper type and blogged because of my mock exams :(. I am aiming to do occasional posts until my exams are over and then I can put myself back into the swing of things, but for now, enjoy my top picks for Winter music!

First off, of course it has to be, a Christmas song. I've chosen `DO THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS?`I don't care how many covers there are of this song, it's just great and, without doubt, symbolises the start of Christmas!

To be perfectly honest, I haven't been listening to many Christmas songs, or even the charts, I've just been reminiscing on lots of past chart toppers, so I'll share them with you. `SAY MY NAME - DESTINY'S CHILD` has been stuck on a loop in my head, it is just so damn good: listen to it!

Another is `WARWICK AVENUE- DUFFY`. Can we all just take a moment to praise Duffy for this amazing song, it is legitimately my go to song if I'm going to sleep, sad or even happy, it just fits all the parts acquired!

Lastly on my throwback streak, I want to share with you a well known song is `SHE WILL BE LOVED`. I also want to state that if you have not listened to this track, do yourself a great favour, and do!

I feel as if I should talk more about some Christmas songs I have always liked, since it is...Christmas! First off, its Ariana Grande with her Christmas covers, which are hypnotic! She has a new album with Christmas songs on it, which everyone needs to go listen to on repetition for at least 24 hours!

There is of course, Michael Buble, who is the Christmas King! Lastly, and I know this is very controversial, but its good ol` Justin Bieber. I've been forced to listen to MISTLETOE and its started to rub off on me, so save yourself the distress of having to like it through torture and go have a listen!

So, I guess that's my months Spotify listens wrapped up in one post! I wish you the merriest of Christmas' if I do not see you before the famous day!

October Favorites | 2015

Hello and welcome to an long awaited favorite post! Lots of ideas came to mind when I was thinking of what post to write for October, but I just had to do a favorites since there have been so many products I've been stacking up to share with everyone.

First off, I have to talk about PLL (Pretty Little Liars). I've been binge watching it for about two weeks and even though the plot gets a bit weak round season 3-5, but I'm still loving it! To give you a brief, its about a group of four girls who get the aftermath of one of their 'best friends' murder, especially a year later when they start getting anonymous texts from 'A', who threatens and scares the girls.

On the theme of TV, there is a movie that brings me to tears (pools of it!) and it is "The Last Song" which stars Miley Cyrus and  Liam Hemsworth and it is such a
stereotypical teenage soppy romance but its great, really!

A reading favorite is my deliciously Ella book, which consists of healthy and organic recipe alternatives which are in fact...delicious! I'll be sure to share some of them too, and some of the ways I've switched them up to make them even better!

I'm also in deep awe of all things tartan! I recently purchased two scarfs with this perfectly autumn/winter print, in my opinion. I got a classic red, green and black scarf and a cream, brown and black which I have been wearing excessively since they were bought.

Now with songs, if you didn't already know I have an never ending love for music and right know, I'm devoted to 5SOS' new album, especially CASTAWAY, PERMANENT VACATION and HEY EVERYBODY. Whenever your feeling down, I recommend these to lift your spirits.

Lastly, I had to include some sort of bath/makeup product and so this month I chose the Soup & Glory conditioner. It works miracles for your hair, and I usually don't use conditioners because they make my hair quite greasy (the up's to having thin hair!) but this doesn't, which is always great!!

That's all for my October favorites for this month which I have thoroughly enjoyed! I'm super excited for whats to come in the next month, since its getting even closer to Christmas (also my mocks :( ) and also, closer to now, it will be Halloween so...HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Till next month!

The Best Soup Ever! - Carrot & Coconut

Hello all! You've probably been amazed by my very bold title, but the recipe I'm going to share you literally is THE BEST SOUP EVER! Just the mix of the two of these two makes something amazing which cannot be described, so please make it!

What you'll need:

  • 12 Carrots
  • A tin of coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • Finely chop 1 medium onion
  • Chunk of butter (1/4 cup of butter)
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
Method
  1. Peel and chop the carrots into 2cm chunks.
  2. Then put the butter, carrots, onion and some salt and pepper in a large pan. Put it on a medium heat and keep stirring it, so it doesn't catch, for 15-20 minutes or until the carrots are soft.
  3. Lower the heat and add the chicken broth, sweet chilli sauce and coconut and mix together. Then let this boil and simmer for 40-45 minutes.
  4. Next you want to leave it to cool then use a hand blender to get all the lumps out of it! Feel free to add some water if it gets to thick (I always do!)
This recipe makes at least 4 portions, so it will last you days, as long as you refrigerate it! Carrot is so beneficial to your skin because Vitamin A and antioxidants protects the skin from sun damage. Vitamin A  also prevents premature wrinkling, acne, dry skin, pigmentation, blemishes, and uneven skin tone, so eat lots of carrot!

So I hope you use this recipe as it is getting colder now. Till next month!

--

In an ideal world, I would have posted quite frequently this summer, but this didn't happen, because I wasn't feeling inspired and I really wanted to have a summer of going out lots (which kinda didn't work-weather!) but overall my aim was achieved.

I want to set my self a target that can be reached with this blog, since I have not posted much at all, so I will be posting at least once a month. These posts will have had lots of effort indulged in them, and be full of my new ideas, which I want to share! Thank you for staying with me!
